It’s getting harder to find good original early antique Indian spice boxes. These pieces are intricately carved and often made of rosewood or teak. The small exquisitely crafted bird was more than likely used for pigments; they are all hand carved with either remnant coloured spice or pigment residue.
Over 80-100 years old, each one has a developed a timeworn patina to the timber segments from many years of use. A very decorative objet for display or daily use.
