For lovers of the real thing

As dealers of found things, it's in our nature to create, build and restore beauty - so it's only natural that in the past 30+ years we've been trading, we've found joy in creating beautiful spaces to share our creations; from a moody warehouse to a high street store. It's hard to define good retail, but you can feel it .... This gorgeous couple loved our shop in Surry Hills so much they called by on their wedding day!
While we absolutely loved renovating our Byron Bay warehouse and creating a unique space for our wares (six years ago)... an expansive road-trip earlier this year ~ allowed us to hit pause and mull things over on the wide-open road ...
To that end; we've decided to step away from our showroom for a multitude of reasons ...
because what people say and what people do are not always the same thing. It's true many of us crave and love artistic, creative places and studios, but the reality is - it's hard to support them with one thing and another. Currently, the retail landscape is a double-edged sword; a bricks & mortar space no longer cuts through the algorithm blur. But by moving "online only", maybe we'll find that state of equilibrium where we still get a buzz from found objects and restoration, without the ties of a shopfront and being at the mercy of social media et al. We will miss the light in the showroom, but we are keeping our workshop and creative studio spaces!
As a passionate photographer, it's hard to admit, but AI has lessened the need for a showroom that sets a tone~as any interior mood can be created with minimal effort and cost. In the past, photo shoot days took energy, with many extra hands, prepping, props, and a shooting list, props, etc. Now, all that's needed is a good image, some flowery words, and AI creates an insta-worthy image.
Over the years we've done our fair share of pivoting in the antique trade, which is I guess why we're still here ... We love mixing it up, from flea markets to warehouses, to a glass-fronted shop on a Surry Hills high-street, to the Byron Bay Arts and Industrial Estate, each space and place has been its own adventure! But soon, we'll be taking leave from the daily grind of a bricks and mortar space and relying on our website to do the heavy lifting :)
